Documents Required for Relocation Process

Original International Passport

Immigration to Nigeria requires you to have your original International Passport for identity confirmation in the country.

Original Resident Permit (Green card/CERPAC Receipt)

You must have original resident permit or CERPAC receipt as it grants a foreign citizen permission to reside and work in the country for up to 2 years. Make sure you get it renewed every 2 years.

Original Packing list with valued inventory list in English Language

You are required to show the original packing list of items, which is valued and detailed in English for customs clearance.

Original Bill of Lading (OBL)/Telex Release/Air Waybill (AWB)

The OBL must be endorsed and signed by the owner of the goods. Whether utilizing an air waybill or original bill of lading or, make sure it is properly consigned according to the instructions of the agent and that the original OBL is issued by the shipping line itself.

Certificate of Transfer/Letter of Employment

If you are relocating to Nigeria for the job purpose of work then you are bound to submit the offer letter from the employer in the new company (established in Nigeria). The Nigerian returning citizens must obtain the Nigerian international e-passport in the origin country before departure owing to non-acceptance of non-electronic passports.

Certificate of Fumigation, if applicable

If your consignment consists of wooden crates then you must acquire the Certificate of Fumigation. This document confirms that wooden materials in the cargo have been fumigated.

Form CC1

You must obtain Form CC1 which applicable for personal effects. It is a necessary document for importing diplomat’s personal effects to Nigeria. It must be duly signed by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Customs, and the relevant Embassy.

For Diplomats - Diplomatic Passport and Letters of Authority

Foreign Diplomats who are moving to Nigeria must obtain diplomatic passport to enter the country and have letter of authority provided by the Embassy from the below-mentioned entities:

  • The Area Comptroller of Customs of the Nigeria Customs Service
  • The officer in charge of NDLEA
  • The officer in charge of SSS, Police, Anti – Bomb Squad, SON, DMI
  • The Releasing Manager of steam shipping line

  • The primary step that counts is the advance planning of your move.
  • The next comes in this list is making a checklist to avoid any problem in future.
  • Then comes the Sensible Packing, that means, to assemble all the tools and objects that you are going to need. For this purpose, first make a list of all your requirements for the same, including the entire primary and smaller objects; start with boxes.
  • Make use of uniformly sized boxes, so that they stack together neatly. As for the big boxes, start with a small number, now double that number of medium-sized boxes that can easily be stacked on top of these big boxes, and add a very large number of small boxes (as they serve the maximum of our purpose).
