Further, if you move to Brazil with the purpose of higher studies, working or settling in, firstly you need to apply for the right type of visa. (i) Short term visas include business and tourist visa that is valid for up to 90 days. Federal Police Office in Brazil has the authority to extend your short term visa if you want to. Another type of visa is (ii) temporary residence visa. This visa can be issued for several reasons such as studying, cultural trips, welfare work and for certain occupations. Within the 30 days of your arrival to the country, you have to get registered at the Brazilian Federal Police Office. Both types of visas can be obtained from the Brazilian Embassy or constitute in your country.

Original Bill of Lading (OBL) / Air Waybill (AWB)

The Original Bill of Lading (OBL) is an agreement of carriage, which is termed as cargo. Additionally, this contract confirms the carrier’s receipt. This deal between supplier and you demonstrates all the shipment information. Tw OBL’s are issued for future use that is named as OBL and endorsed OBL. This orginal bill is must to acquire if you have a bulk cargo of commercial goods to be shipped to Brazil. The OBL must show the harmonized code for HHG goods and cargo cost.

Notarized 2 copies of passport including the blank pages

When moving to Brazil, you should ensure that you have two copies of your passport that include blank pages. You should get them notarized by the Brazilian Consulate. This is also known as “certified” copy of passport.

The CPF or Cadastro de Pessoas Fisicas is a number allocated by the Brazilian revenue organization to both resident aliens and Brazilians who are eligible for taxes in the country. The eleven-digit CPF number is printed on the Brazilian Tax Card, which is necessary while relocating to Brazil. Make sure the same address is registered in CPF as well as final destination of the cargo if you are returning from this country.

Details of inventory and that in Portuguese (1 for the new inventory and 1 for the used inventory)

Newly-purchased and used household possessions may be imported duty-free if they are meant for personal use. Also the new goods must be recognized on the packing list.

ISPM-15 Fumigation Certificate, if applicable

Air vans, lift vans, wooden boxes, and crates arriving in shipping containers or single freight must be fumigated according to the ISPM 15 rules and clearly marked on minimum two opposite sides of the shipping container with permanent black ink.

Declaration of Residence Abroad and Baggage Declaration by the non-Diplomats and returning citizens

Permanent Visa Holders and returning Brazilians might import unaccompanied baggage without any customs duty fee if the items are well identified.

All new goods must be properly listed in the list of packing.
If not declared and detected during the physical inspection of the cargo by customs officers then you have to pay the customs duty along with a penalty.

The Do’s

The primary step that counts is the advance planning of your move.
The next comes in this list is making a checklist to avoid any problem in future.
Then comes the Sensible Packing, that means, to assemble all the tools and objects that you are going to need. For this purpose, first make a list of all your requirements for the same, including the entire primary and smaller objects; start with boxes.
Make use of uniformly sized boxes, so that they stack together neatly. As for the big boxes, start with a small number, now double that number of medium-sized boxes that can easily be stacked on top of these big boxes, and add a very large number of small boxes (as they serve the maximum of our purpose).

The fragile items or the delicate ones should not be packed along with the durable or heavier ones.
Loose bundling of the boxes or the items inside may also lead to the breakage or damage of the goods being packed and moved.
The vehicle or the mode of transportation that is being finalized for the shifting purpose must have passed all the necessary clearance and proper servicing done already, so that real time chaos can be avoided.
One personnel at least of the company you are hiring for the shifting should accompany your goods till the destination.
