Import of Household Goods and Personal Effects Across Canada

While importing your household goods and personal effects to Canada, you will need the following documents :–

 

  • Photocopy of passport
  • Residency proof abroad for at least 1 year; for this you can use bank statements, utilities, rent receipts etc of first and last month of 12 months period
  • Detailed list of inventory/ packed items in English or French
  • Receipts for new items
  • Original Bill of Lading (OBL) / Air Waybill (AWB)
  • Work Permit or Student Visa, if applicable
  • Other Required Documents, if Applicable

Photocopy of passport

You need to submit the photocopies of bio data page of your passport to confirm your identity. If you’re moving to Canada with your spouse and dependent children then you have to submit the copies of their passports too.

 

Residency proof abroad for at least 1 year; for this you can use bank statements, utilities, rent receipts etc of first and last month of 12 months period

You need to submit the residency evidence for at least 1 year if you’re returning from Canada. For this purpose, you can make use of your bank statements, rent or utility receipts, and other payment bills of first and last month of 1 year.

 

Detailed list of inventory/ packed items in English or French

While moving to and from Canada, you are required to submit a detailed list of inventory in either English or French language. The list should include all the items that are packed in the shipment for verification.

 

Receipts for new items

You should not skip new items in the packing list. You must carry the receipts of items that you have recently bought and are taking with you while relocating to and from Canada.

 

Original Bill of Lading (OBL) / Air Waybill (AWB)

The OBL is the contract of carriage that is mandatory while moving across Canada. The Original Bill of Lading and endorsed Original Bill of Lading are issued for valuable consideration, showcasing goods to be shipped on board a train or vessel. The contract includes all the terms and conditions between the receiver and you for the shipment.

 

Work Permit or Student Visa, if applicable
